Avneet Chopra

I have had a wonderful and successful career as a painter & sculptor since 2000. My work is rooted in the modernist tradition of 20th–Century art.
My inspiration has been my conviction that modern painting is fueled by the combination of tradition and the realities of modern life. Spirituality and feelings are the basic subjects of my work. They are depictions of intuitive expressions using color as language, and the landscape (God’s earth) as a metaphor for the arena of life. The revelation of a primal image that delivers an immediate response in the viewer is my goal. Hopefully my paintings and sculptures convey a felt perception of life, an awareness of the history of art, and a clear expression of my passion and sense of spirituality. I sense a visual music that externalizes what I feel within me and in the air.
I took painting as a profession in 2000. It has become an integral part of my life. Throughout my career, I have organized more than 29 exhibitions, prepared more than 50 paintings and approximately 100 sculptures including fiber glass and stone sculptures; I have also done work of metro stations at Delhi, workshops and many more work. Making sculptures and painting is my passion and I wish to continue it forever. My expertise is painting and installation of sculpture with different grains. My medium of painting is acrylic colors on canvas as I find acrylic colors in compatibility with my style.

Theme of my work

Acrylic colors are the main theme for my painting, but I started my earlier time with pencil, charcoal and watercolors. As these are the simplest mediums of colors to start. Then I thought to use oil colors, but for using the technique of oil colors one should need to have lot of knowledge for proper use of colors. I also did the hard work to understand the technique of these colors because my hand was only set on drawings. For Sculptures and Murals, I used clay, fiber glass, stone, wood, mixed media and other colors to give final touches.
Slowly and steadily I fully understood the mood of these vibrant colors. As oil colors are used by great artists and it is one of the best mediums in the art world. Oil colors are so much important because paintings made with oil colors 1000 years ago are still looking fresh.
After learning the technique of oil color I understood the medium of acrylic colors also. Acrylic colors are based on water and were 100%, according to my thinking. There is so much variety of bright colors in acrylic colors. I mostly use bold and bright colors in my paintings as my favorite colors fill positivity and freshness in the heart. My dark color theme is based on pastel toning. Thistheme puts a big impact on my color combination choice also.

Essentiality for Work

To prepare a good painting one has to get indulged fully with the minute basic specificationsand the need of that painting. One has to understand what are the requirements that painting need like place, atmosphere, colors , canvas size etcetera.
I mostly paint in the late evenings, that is after supper till as much as I feel to. Late eveningsare the best suitable for this work because spending time with colors in soothing atmosphere always fill your life with happiness and joy. I am doing this for past 22 years. Mostly I work only in the evenings, but anytime if I have to send my painting to art galleries or work load is a bit higher then I paint for some extra times also like during day time as well.
In addition, if I plan to make stone or concrete sculptures that need lot of time to carvein or to give them some desired shape, then I generally start working early so that I can build one sculpture as soon as possible. Giving shape to a concrete stone is not an easy task. It is time consumingprocess and I need to keep lot of patience to complete a sculpture.
There is a big role of effectsof light for making any kind of artwork. Some artists make paintings only in natural light and something inner house light is efficient, but in my perception, both types of light (External natural light and internal home light) is very essential for making a best artwork to get a proper choice of colors. I mostly paint in evenings as I feel it’s the most serene and calm time to create a good art work.
The atmosphere is another factorfor creativity. Creativity is divine in nature that need silence and serenity. A good example is of the world-renowned artist Sobah Singh. For achieving perfection, he left the city life and settle down on hills. Today also many artists make their paintings in their studios or in open areas instead of making them at their homes. But I am very lucky that my family always supported me in my work and provided me best time and atmosphere so that I don’t get disturbed. I also maintained proper balance in my personal and professional life. My family has supported me every time. They have always given me opportunities to visit outstations, conduct workshops, visit galleries, museums etcetera for exposure in life.
